OPTIONS / NOTABLE ORIGINAL EQUIPMENT / MODIFICATIONS FROM ORIGINAL:
Additionally, the six cylinder engine was replaced with a 283 cubic inch V8 and the three speed manual transmission was replaced with a three speed Powerglide transmission. Other than these changes, the car was restored to its original form. The body was painted Coronado Yellow with an Onyx Black top, just like the original car. Restoration was completed in the spring of 1998. The odometer reading when restoration was completed was 28,750. The present odometer reading is 49,975, so 21,225 miles since restoration. The Coker whitewall radial tires have 3,425 miles on them.
INTERESTING / IMPORTANT VEHICLE HISTORY AND SUPPORTING DOCUMENTS:My father bought this beautiful 1957 four door Chevrolet BelAir in the autumn of 1956 from Thomas Garage in Vegreville, Alberta. Being the frugal farmer that he was, he did not include too many options or upgrades. To keep the price down, he order the car with a Blue Flame six cylinder engine. He added only one outside mirror – on the driver’s side. He was not going to include a radio. I was nine years old at the time and I pleaded and pleaded with him to include a radio; no way – it would have added $52 to this $3200 purchase price. When the car arrived, there it was with a Deluxe push button radio! I was in heaven!!
ANY ADDITIONAL PARTS, ACCESSORIES OR DOCUMENTS TO BE INCLUDED WITH SALE:My Dad passed the car on to me in 1966 when I went away to attend University of Alberta in Edmonton. There I met my wife and we dated in that Chevy while attending university. Upon graduation, I purchased a new car and handed the car off to my sister who farmed near Two Hills, Alberta. Her family used the Chevy primarily for herding cattle, so by the time that they were “finished” with it, it was an absolute rusty wreck. In 1994, I trailered the Chevy from the “farm” to Priddis, Alberta and contracted it out to Specialty Paint and Body in Dewinton for restoration. Because the body was so rusty, the original body was discarded and a better, virtually rust free body was substituted. 2000 Northwest Lake City Cruise – Coeur d’Alene, Idaho – 2nd Place
